UCLA Dialogue Across Difference Initiative

About

The Dialogue across Difference (DaD) Initiative aims to model and promote the values of intellectual engagement, curiosity, empathy, active listening and critical thinking through a series of campus events, classes, informal learning opportunities and social programming. The Initiative has four major prongs of activity on campus:

Student Leadership
Support students to gain the critical skills for engaging across difference and connecting them to opportunities to experience and create dialogue opportunities with their peers.
Teaching Programs
Support faculty and instructors at UCLA to facilitate across difference in the classroom. Currently, this includes an intensive faculty fellowship program and the sponsorship of a range of 1-unit fiat lux courses.
Training and workshops
Build the campus’s collective muscle for navigating differences by providing a series of workshops, advanced trainings, and train the trainer opportunities. DaD has partnered with the nationally acclaimed nonprofit Resetting the Table to bring its field-tested methodology for engaging across charged differences to campus.
Public programs
Host public programming featuring speakers that model the principles of empathy, active listening, and passionate intellectual engagement across differences.

DaD is also developing a digital clearinghouse of existing activities, programs, experts, and opportunities related to dialogue and bridge building both on and off-campus. Learn more about DaD at its website!
